Originally from Portsmouth, Virginia, Mike resides in the Western Branch section of Chesapeake with his wife Betsy, CDR NC USN (ret) and their two children. Naval Medical Center – Portsmouth (NMC Portsmouth aka Portsmouth Naval Hospital) has figured prominently throughout Mike’s life. It began when he was born in Building One, the oldest functioning hospital in the country. After his mother retired from Portsmouth Naval Hospital, he met his future wife, Betsy, shortly after she transferred to the command. Later, their two children would be born in Building One. Betsy continues her post retirement medical career affiliated with NMC Portsmouth. Mike graduated from Portsmouth Catholic Elementary School, Frederick Military Academy, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Monmouth University.
